Do you know that you talk too much? Okay, no offence, maybe you don’t. But then, you might want to read this: Research has shown that each single day, you release through your mouth enough words that could fill a 50-page book. And in a year’s time, you release words that could fill 132 books of 200 pages each. If we use a baseline of 280 words per page, it therefore means that you emit an average of 14’000 words each day. Boy, is that ample! I bet this finding doesn’t mean much to you. Well, me too. But let’s contrast it with the number of times you engage in mindful thinking. How often do you engage your mind in real thinking? If you actually talk this much, what then is your marginal propensity to really think?

Please note, I am not referring to default thinking—of course, we all do that…with or without us knowing it. Actually, I’m referring to deliberate, deep, imaginative thinking—a thinking that ushers you into the profundity of your mind and causes you to explore novelties. Look, you possess the natural ability to think. However, you can either choose to only use this ability at the periphery (default thinking) or also drive it deep into the core of your mental space (mindful thinking). Champions, world-changers, trailblazers, and pacesetters understand and appreciate the beauty that the core holds, so they drive themselves towards it…deliberately and consistently. What about you?

When was the last time you truly engaged your mind? When was the last time you put your thinking cap on? Deep thinking is an exercise that helps to expand your mental capacity and it also opens you up to new and creative ideas. So this is the assignment: Create your own deep thinking work-out schedule today. Set aside a convenient time each day when you’ll engage in mindful thinking; and when that time comes, please do it. If you do this exercise for the next 21 days, I bet you’ll be inspired by the change it will bring to your life. Trust me, this is not academic…it’s efficacious.
